Waiting to see Dr. Poscik
9 month well-visit:
Trey had a great checkup on 8/23.  He was such a good boy. This was our first visit since he has outgrown me bringing him everywhere in his infant carrier. It was nice just putting him in his stroller and going. He loved looking around at all the people and eating cheerios while we waited for Dr. Poscik. We had a great checkup and Dr. P said he is still growing well. I told her my concern about him cutting back on milk since he eats so much solid foods now but she said as long as he is getting at least 20-25 ounces in a day (and continues to grow) he is fine. She said at this point, their growth usually slows, but Trey's has not. He has consistently gained 1 lb or more each month since birth!

Infants now get PPD testing done which is so strange to me to inject them with a virus like that.I know some people are opposed to vaccinating and testing, but working in healthcare, I know the dangers of TB and I most definitely do not want Trey getting that, especially since we have had TB patient's in the past where I work. I didn't realize he would be getting any testing or shots at the 9 month appointment. He took it like a champ and didn't even cry. He was very interested in what Kayla (the nurse) was doing and just watched her the entire time.

Hair/Eyes:
His hair is still growing from back to front again and getting thicker. His eyes are blue but in the sun, they sometimes have a greenish tint to them. I think at this point they will stay light but not as light as his Daddy's.

Nicknames:
Big Man, Buddy, Bubba, Bubs, Bud, Baby Trey

What He's Wearing:
9-12 or just 12 month clothes, size 4 shoes and size 4 diapers. We just got the cutest hand-me-down shoes from Quinn and Reece!

Sleep Habits:
Trey has been still sleeping well except the last week he had a little sleep regression where he was waking up around 2 am wanting a bottle. We talked to Dr. P about it at his appointment and she suggested giving him one last bottle before we go to bed so if he continues to wake up we will try that. She said "Trey, you are too big of a boy to be waking up at night- you don't need that milk". It made me laugh.

AH, those eyelashes kill me...
He has now transitioned to one short (30-45 minutes) and one long (2+ hours!) naps each day. He is still sleeping in his crib but we had to lower his mattress this month. We were finding him standing up in his crib!

What He Eats:
Trey continues to drink approx. 20-25 ounces of Similac Soy each day with an additional 18-20 oz of food plus snacks. This little boy would eat all. day. long. if I let him!

He started eating more table food this month and he LOVES to feed himself. It makes for messy meal time, but I know that's how he learns.

I continue to make his food (purees) but we pretty much let him try anything and everything except the obvious baby no-no's. He even shared a piece of pizza with me one night!

I usually give him some pureed food plus small pieces of whatever we are eating. He has loved it all!

I think I may have made my last batch of purees this week though as he is doing so well with table foods and my big batches of food last us one month. It is sort of bittersweet!

New foods this month include: hummus, muffins, watermelon, cantaloupe, mango, pineapple, yogurt, birthday cake :), lemonade (just once. I am NOT a fan of empty calories from juice and probably won't give him any until he can ask for it himself), table foods include: peas, carrots, green beans, baked beans, brisket, meatballs, lentils, cheese, pizza and pancakes!

We have started to incorporate small amounts of dairy into his diet and so far he has done great with yogurt, cheese and the yogurt melts. He was not a fan of the yogurt melts at first but now LOVES them!

Daily Routine:
Nothing has really changed here. Our little schedule has been pretty consistent and has worked out well for us.

Personality:
Trey continues to laugh a lot, usually when we act like were going to "get him" and when we tickle him.

He likes to crawl away from us when being "chased".

He loves pillows and will immediately crawl to one and lay his head down on it when he sees one.

Milestones:
At 8 months and 1 week, he started crawling and there has been no stopping him! He can now pull up to a kneeling or standing position with ease and he makes Mama very nervous.

He started pulling up to standing only 1 week after crawling.

He is a daredevil and will pull up on anything and everything. He also loves to crawl over things, especially us when we lay on the ground.

Trey has become a pro at feeding himself and likes to share his food and drinks with us.

He can also hold his sippy cup but thats a work in progress. Dr. Poscik recommended for us to put formula in it instead of water to get some extra calories in during the day- genius, now why didn't I think of that?!

He now waves and claps on command and makes fish faces. He continues to give open mouthed kisses which sometimes contain tongue- gross! We are trying to get him to stop that!

What Trey says:
"Dada" is the most frequently heard "word" at this time, but he hasn't associated it with Jim yet. He still squeals and gasps a lot. He says "ma" or "mama" but it is usually when he wants something. He also says "ha" sometimes when we are telling him "hi" so I think he may be trying to say it back to us. Trey also said "ba" once when looking at his bottle!

He understands much of what we say and is starting to learn the word "no!" because he is getting into EVERYTHING!

So much for that bowl...

Anything New:

I have returned to the gym- yay!!! Which means, Trey has started going to the child care at the gym as well. He went through a little adjustment period but seems to like it now. Each time we go, he gets a little more brave. He actually played with a little girl last time we went. For a child with so much stranger anxiety, this was huge!! Trey also enjoys going for jogs in the stroller so Mama can get in a little work out! I look forward to more jogs outdoors once it cools off more.

2 mile run with my favorite lil workout buddy.
We got Trey a walker and he LOVES it. He terrorizes Lucky all over the house in it and can really get going fast. He also enjoys chasing Sadie during the day at Sara's.

He has recently discovered Lucky's food and water and makes a bee-line to it everytime he is in the kitchen. We have even tried blocking it off to no avail. He LOVES to play in Lucky's water but thankfully he has not tried to eat the food...yet.

Another new favorite is the doggie-door. Oh brother...

And of course, he is trying to get in Lucky's bed any chance he gets!

Trey still loves to swing and although we have one at home, we try to go to the park by our house at least once every couple of weeks. I plan on going a lot more once it cools off some more. To the park and back is 1 mile so it also gives us the opportunity for a mini-workout.

He has graduated to the big bathtub. He now sits in the tub on a non-slip mat (no more sponge!) and continues to LOVE bath time!

Seriously, look at that little baby beer belly and hiney!!

The not-so-cute stuff:
Trey has been biting us me. He has left tiny little teeth marks on me :( We fuss at him but he tends to think it is funny so we are trying to ignore it. It is not intentional but he is biting when he tried to pull up on things as it helps to stabilize him so I think this is what he is doing when he bites me as well. He has not bit Jim but pulls his leg and arm hair pretty hard- ouch!

He has started to throw temper tantrums when we take something away from him or when he wants something that we won't give him. It's real cute, especailly when were out at a restaurant or in a store, NOT.

He is SUCH a Major and still holds the title for the Bouday King of Texas.
He is obsessed with the remote and usually has a meltdown when we take it away from him. He somehow always figures out how to change the channel to "telemundo". We have given him remotes without batteries but he seems to know the difference between that one and the real one- crazy.

He has some stranger anxiety and separation anxiety. He wants to know where we are at all times and will crawl into other rooms to find us. Independant play time is a thing of the past, for now at least, until he outgrows this. He has also really been wanting me lately. It makes me feel good but bad at the same time, but I know he will outgrow it.

Trey is still not holding his own bottle, geez! He is fully capable of doing it but is so spoiled he would rather let us do it for him.

What we did this month:

Trey received post cards in the mail from the Tiptons and Marsolans during their travels!! Thanks y'all, he really did like them!

Swimming at Mindy and Gene's house!

Spent the day at Jaime's aunt's beach house in Galveston!
The first time Trey saw or touched sand! Then it immediately went into his mouth- blahhh!

He LOVED the waves and was so excited to be in the water!

Sleep over with Dellie and Quinn at our house...

Trey and I attended a Celebration of Life ceremony at the Aquarium for one of my favorite patients that passed away. Trey was quite the center of attention and loved watching the fish!

We celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary! We went out to eat at Perry's to celebrate while Trey had his first sleep over at the Toler's! :)

We added a third tick mark to the barn door! :)

We celebrated a Saints pre-season win over the Texans- WHO DAT!

Looking SO forward to this weekend and the return of College Football- GEAUX TIGERS!!! If any of y'all are headed to Dallas, holla at us! Grammy and Peetie will be babysitting Trey this weekend while we are in Dallas- we can't wait to see them!!
