8 months!

It's getting more and more difficult to take these photos on this glider!

Growth Stats:
19 lbs 12 oz and 29 inches long (unofficially)
This puts him in the 25-50 % for weight and 75-90 for length.
For a recap here are his stats from birth:
Birth: 8 lb 0 oz and 20 3/4 inches long
1 month: 10 lbs 6 oz and 22 inches long
2 months: 12 lb 8 oz and 23 1/4 inches long
3 months: 13 lbs 8 oz and 24 inches long
4 months: 14 lbs 14 oz and 25 3/4 inches long
5 months: 16 lbs 0 oz 26 1/4 inches long
6 months: 17 lb 9 oz and 27 1/2 inches long
7 months: 18 lbs 12 oz and 27 3/4 inches long

Hair/Eyes:
Trey's old man hair has made a comeback! His hair is growing from back to front again and getting thicker.

His eyes are blue but in the sun, they sometimes have a greenish tint to them. I think they will be light but not as light as his Daddy's.

Nicknames:
Big Man, Buddy, Bubba, Bubs, Bud, Baby Trey

What He's Wearing:
9-12 month clothes, size 2-3 shoes and size 4 diapers.

Sleep Habits:
The end of Trey's 7th month brought some changes for sleep (for all of us). Trey was continuing to wake up 2-3 times a night and wanted to snack on a bottle, drink an ounce or two of milk then go back to sleep. We knew he wasn't hungry, and that he was using the bottle for comfort but we really really didn't want to try the only thing we hadn't tried yet- a modified version of cry it out. Just typing those words hurt my heart, but we knew he needed to sleep and we knew in our hearts he wasn't waking up for any reason other than the fact that he could no longer soothe himself to sleep.

So, for one week, we sort of used the "ferber" method which entails you going in at different intervals to check on him. There is NO way I could just let my precious little one cry alone in his crib, but THIS I could do! When Trey would wake up in the middle of the night, we would check on him at different times to make sure nothing was wrong with him and when we knew he was ok, we would let him soothe himself to sleep. We would return leaving more and more time between checks until eventually he didn't need us to go in at all.

The first couple of nights were rough and he did cry and fuss for about 10 minutes (which completely broke our hearts!). After the first few nights, the crying got less and less and the last night we had to go in there, he was wet and needed to be changed. He has re-learned how to soothe himself to sleep and is getting MUCH more restful sleep, thank goodness!! By night 4, he was able to soothe himself back to sleep without us getting up out of bed and now it has been over a week without us having to go in there at night. I would seriously recommend this to anyone who gets stuck in the same non-sleeping rut we were in.

He now normally wakes up looking like this, so we know he's well-rested :)

We also recently started to let him sleep with a blanket or lovie. He really likes to snuggle with them at night.
What He Eats:

I weaned Trey after 7.5 months of breastfeeding and although I am SO glad I breastfed him, I am BEYOND glad to be done! I was starting to despise the pump and it was just not enjoyable for me (or Trey) anymore. He was becoming so distracted and it's pretty hard to wrangle an almost 20 lb busy-body into a good position to nurse. I know anyone who has ever breastfed knows what I mean by this!

I was planning on nursing him in the morning and at night, but once I started weaning him, I was just ready to be done. Everyone told me that I would just "know" when we were ready to part ways and that was absolutely the truth.

I was able to continue to give Trey some breast milk daily until he was 8 months old as I had a decent amount of milk in the freezer.

Trey has done great transitioning to formula! He has had no issue with the Similac Soy, although I do notice it keeps him full a lot longer than breastmilk did so he drinks less milk now.

Trey still LOVES food. I continue to make all his food and he continues to LOVE everything he puts in his mouth. He eats three meals a day plus snacks of mum mums, puffs or soft finger foods. New foods this month include: apricots, butternut squash and nutmeg, cinnamon, figs, broccoli, spinach, blueberries, baby mum mum snacks, chicken, turkey and lil crunchies snacks. He also had some bread and french fries on vacation ;)

He also LOVES to feed himself puffs and mum mums. He is also getting pretty good at drinking out of his sippy cup.

Daily Routine:
Nothing has really changed here. Our little schedule has been pretty consistent and has worked out well for us.
At 8 months, I feel like Trey has been on the same schedule for a few months and I feel like he is pretty much sticking to this routine enough to call it his daily schedule. It goes a little something like this:

5:30-6am- Wake up, 5 oz bottle
7:15-7:30am- Drop Trey off at Sara's
8am- 5 oz bottle
9am- Nap
10 am- Breakfast (5-6 oz of fruit and cereal)
11am-12pm- 5 oz bottle then nap
2pm-Lunch (5-6 oz of vegetable and/or fruit)
3-4pm- Will sometimes drink an ounce or two from a bottle
5pm- Mommy picks up Trey and sometimes he takes a quick power-nap on the way home
5:30 pm- 5 oz bottle
6:30pm- Supper (5-6 oz of fruit/veggie/cereal or a combo)
8pm- 5 oz bottle
8:30pm- bath and PJs
9pm- bedtime!
Rinse and repeat :) He is now down to 25-28 ounces of formula per day.

Personality:
Trey continues to laugh a lot, usually when we act like were going to "get him" and when we tickle him.

He also has this high pitched "gasp" that he does when he is really excited.

He's also a particular little critter and is quick to let you know when something is bothering him. He also has quite a temper and will really belt out when upset, especially when something is taken away from him that he shouldn't be playing with- wow, the kid has got a set of lungs on him!! (It's that Major temper coming out!)

Milestones:

Trey can easily sit unsupported and transition from sitting to all fours and back and forth.

Still not officially crawling, but he can get up on all fours and rock and scoot anywhere he needs to get. We like to refer to it as "scrawing" scoot-crawling :)

He has also started to pull up on things and usually very unstable things like the rocking ottoman or laundry basket.

He continues to try to "get" Lucky on a daily basis. Sometimes he succeeds but usually only when there are treats involved...

He also pats and hugs necks and gives kisses. He is starting to wave more and more. He loves playing peek a boo!

He can feed himself snacks such as puffs and mum mum's. We have tried a few finger foods but anything squishy is still too hard for him to pick up. I am SUPER excited to start him on table food soon though.

What Trey says:
"Dada" is the most frequently heard "word" at this time, but he hasn't associated it with Jim yet. He still squeals and gasps a lot. He has also started to say "ma".

Anything New:
He has started to fake-cough to get our attention.

Trey loves to play peek-a-boo with blankets and likes to look for hidden objects.

He also "scrawls" over to things and tries to pull up on them; most recently the door frames, ottomans  couches and our legs.

What we did this month:

  • We went to La Toretta Resort on Lake Conroe for the weekend and had a great time.

Our view from our room, overlooking Lake Conroe.
The guys played golf Saturday while we hung out by the pool with the kiddos. They were angels and we had a lot of fun!

Saturday night we had a yummy steak dinner.

Sunday, the guys joined us by the pool for a few hours before we headed back home.

  • We had a visit from the Hoffmans which was SO much fun.

Katherine and the boys spent Tuesday night with us and we made homemade pizza.

I took off work Wednesday and Katherine and I (along with the Tolers, Bonvillians, Derouens and some other friends) took the kiddos to Pirates Bay water park in Baytown.

Thursday night we hung out at the Kemah Boardwalk for dinner at Cadillac and a had another great visit before they left to go back home Friday.

  • We had to go home unexpectedly as Leslie's PawPaw Len passed away :(
SO thankful that this little guy does so well in the car!

Even though it was a sad occasion, it gave us a good
opportunity to visit with family and friends. Trey really liked taking a bath in Grammy's kitchen sink!

We had a fun day Sunday with Mama, Peetie, Aunt Janie and Uncle Bub, Kristin, Jilly and NaeNae before heading back to Tx.

  • We also spent a little QT on the Island Sunday. I can't believe how Nanny and Boo's yard looks now- like there was never even a house there! :( So sad to think about all the memories I have of that house and yard and that house is no longer there.

  • Grammy and Peetie came to visit and kept Trey for us last week while the Bonvillians were out of town.

We had a great visit with them and were sad to see them go. Trey just loves them so much. He lights up when he sees them and reaches for them over and over again. We are so blessed that they get to spend so much time with him and us too.

While they were here, he attended his first Raffi concert and loved it :). He also enjoyed watching Sesame St. on Peet's iPad.

Looking forward to August...The first kickoff of the season is on August 31st vs. TCU and I can barely stand to wait. Geaux Tigers!! :)
