Lamp Re-Vamp

Last week I received the sweetest package in the mail! My Aunt Sharon sent me some letters that my dad had mailed her when he was in the army. It really touched my heart that she had kept them all these years so I knew I had to find a special way to display them!

I have a lamp that I got when my Grandma O'Meara passed away. She had used it to show off her extensive shell collection. (I did not take a before picture because back when I originally re-vamped the lamp I did not know I would be starting this blog.)

I took the lamp apart and took out the shells and cleaned out the sand (as best I could). Then I primed and painted the bras parts of the lamp an aged bronze color. After it was painted and dry, I put the lamp back together and placed two of the letters inside.
Close up shot of the pictures. You can also see the aged bronze paint color on the base of the lamp.
Full shot of the lamp.

She knew I would love these letters and she was absolutely right! :)

The finished product on the side table in our living room. The duckling painting on the wall is one of my Grandma O'Meara's painting, so I thought it was only fitting to put it over the lamp with my dad's letters inside of it. And just in case you were wondering, the painting is titled "Ducks Limited", not to be confused with the Unlimited version... hehe!

Thanks again Aunt Sharon! Love you!

LOVE IT!! It looks awesome and prefect with the duck painting. How cool that Aunt Sharon keep the letters for so long. We are so lucky to be born into such a Loving and caring O'Meara family :)

I love the fact that you are as sentimental as I am. The lamp is a treasure in more ways than one. I love you. Mama

Katherine, I agree! (and not to mention such a big family!) I couldn't imagine not having the family that we have...
Mama, and to think I used to call you the "Kleenex Queen" :)

What a great way to display the letters. I know Grandma would be so happy to see that you are enjoying her things. She would have loved reading your Dad's letters too. I wish I would have found them sooner. I'm so happy to be a part of this family and that it just keeps growing. Soon we will be welcoming Amber and then Baby Bergeron and then...
