Sunday Funday

My Sissy and I love to go antiquing! Once we made the mistake of bringing the Hubsters along (note this only happened ONCE, hehe). It is one of our favorite past-times. We both love bringing old things into our houses to help make them "homes". We have very similar styles, but also very different, so we make great shopping buddies. Two years ago, we went to the Houston Urban Market, which was AMAZING. We spent hours weaving our way in and out of each booth/tent and found lots of beautiful "treasures". I was excited when earlier this week Sissy saw the Urban Market was this weekend and suggested we go. You can check out their website  HERE.

This morning, we got our official shopping beverage of a skinny vanilla latte and headed out to the market. This year, the site was moved to be under a covered pavilion where there would be plenty of parking for free in a lot. We were excited and happily paid our $8 entrance fee and started shopping! We found 1 or 2 booths that had some really cute things, but we were disappointed in the size of the market this year. It was obviously smaller than the first year we had gone, we would say about half the size. There were more jewelry and clothes booths than before, which we skipped over, since those really aren't the things we are into.

We did find a beautiful painted chandy which I skeefed a few pics of for future reference. I want to paint my free craigslist chandy like this one to put in our bathroom. I love wooden chandeliers, but don't like the price tag that goes along with them. I love this distressed paint job on this beautiful chandy and KNOW I can re-create this in our home!

We also found these adorable painted clay pots that we KNOW we can DIY. Aren't they just adorable?
I was looking for a light fixture to hang over what will eventually be the Hubster's outdoor kitchen/prep area under the patio. I found this one that I loved, but the problem was that it was too wide. Boo :( I guess the light-hunt will have to continue.

I also love the photos I see on other people's blogs, taken at adorable stores while out shopping. Sissy and I decided we would take one to document our not-so-successful shopping trip today. We were not super successful at getting a cute pic, especially since it was 40 degrees, yes 40 (brrrrr) and we had never actually used the iPhone 180 degree feature, and we were laughing hysterically, but here goes nothin :)

Sissy ended up getting some books and some UBER cute letters to spell out "L-O-V-E  U" in Adelle's big girl room, and I left empty-handed. So.... after our VERY unsuccessful trip we decided to hit up the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. I hear all these wonderful things about the Re-Store on blogs like Young House Love. I want to stop there every time we pass by but have never stopped. So, we map-quested our way to the store only to notice it was closed on Sundays, boo boo double boo.

Our next thought was our old stand-by, the Alvin Antique Mall, so onto to Hwy 35 we headed. We didn't have a ton of luck but when I saw this church pew, it was love at first site. I knew it had to come home with me. I have been looking for a cute, but small bench for our house for a couple of years now. I have also loved church pews for most of my adult life.

When I saw this beauty, I instantly fell in love!
The size was absolutely perfect and the shape was stunning. Even better, this sucker was sturdy and very well-built. I checked out the price tag and noticed it had been marked down almost 50% (from $400 to $225). $225 was still out of my budget so we scooped up a card for the booth and headed up to the front of the store. After a little negotiation and an agreement to pay cash (that way the booth owner got more money out of the deal and I didn't have to pay tax on it), this beauty was mine for $180.

I was beyond excited!! Sissy and I measured my car and of course it wouldn't fit, so we called the Hubster and he met us in Alvin to pick up this beauty.

I had originally planned to put her in our dining room, in front of our front window. Those plans changed when the Hubster told me we would block Lucky's view from the window. Yes I know that is a little ridiculous, but this dog is our only child and spoiled rotten so I knew I had to find another spot.

Below is what I came up with. I absolutely love it and think it makes the little corner of our living room look perfectly warm and makes it a useful space. (I would have included a picture of where it actually is located in our living room but the rest of the room was a little less-than-clean)

Church pew in her new home :)

I love her detail! I also love this little pillow I scooped up shopping on Main Street with my Mama and G'mama last time I was home.

So..what do you think? Is there something that you love, but just haven't found the perfect one yet? I wish you luck in your search!
