Well, it is officially SPRING! This marks my favorite season, until the fall when football season starts, of course! Hubster and I were busy busy busy all weekend beautifying our yard (as you can see in our backyard/patio re-do post HERE!
The things I love most about Spring and look forward to each year are newly blossoming and budding plants, Abita Strawberry Harvest beer, fresh fruit, and the first sun-burn of the year! (NO, I don't like to get sun-burned but I like being able to be out in the sun and the first time I do this each year usually results in a sun-burn on my fair skin!)

This weekend, while we were at Sun-Land nursery, Hubby was looking at strawberry plants. I could tell he wanted to buy some, but he decided against it. Later, he told me the sweetest story about when he was a little boy. When he and his parents would go to visit his dad's brother, Uncle Hollis, he would pick strawberries. He said his favorite part was that looking at the strawberry plants, you couldn't tell if there were any ripe berries or not...until you lifted the leaves. He told about how there would just be a huge patch of strawberries and he would just pick and pick and pick until his little heart's content. After hearing this story, I knew I had to get my man some berries!
After work on Monday, I had to do some grocery shopping at the Wally-World so I picked up some potting soil (we had run out from our weekend of planting!), two potted strawberry plants and some fertilizer. I could not find a strawberry pot anywhere in the store :( so I headed next door to Lowes. There they had the most perfect size strawberry pots marked down from $24.99 to $12.99. It was like this little pot was just waiting on me to come there and scoop it up. I rushed home to unload the groceries and complete Hubby's sussie before he got home. In the midst of all this, it also started to rain, so there I was huddled up in the garage trying to plant these quickly...I'm sure the neighbors got quite a laugh if any of them were watching...
Here is the finished product. I left this sweet sussie on the front porch to surprise him when he got home from work. He was very surprised and loved it and neither one of us can wait to enjoy some of the yummy berries!
I've also been a busy lil' bee adding a little Spring happiness to our home...
I love to change the decor on my "green girl" dresser to go with the different seasons. For the Spring, I like to add this beautiful piece of coral that I got from my Grandma O'Meara. My Aunt Lucy brought it back from Guam for her and I always admired it as a child. I also have some pretty bottles I scooped up from Home Goods last year, and round out the display with the beautiful silk flower arrangement Mama's super-talented friend Mrs Jennifer made me for my engagement pictures. I also have some little bunnies that I put in various places around the house. Of course, I also spruced up the front flowerbeds- no point in ignoring them to make the back so beautiful! I planted a few more leftover plants in some pots to brighten up our front porch a bit. Hope you enjoy!
I hope these pictures brought a little sunshine and happiness into your lives... You've heard mine, so what are some of your favorite things about Spring?

I love watching and waiting for the native pecan trees to bud! A sure sign that spring is here and the danger of a frost is over. Your flowerbeds are beautiful! Love you, Mama
you are so cute! your house is so spring-y! I love the sound of birds chirping and driving past the orchards when they are covered in blossoms. xo
Mama- I love seeing the pecan trees bud too! They never get fooled by weather, right?
Lovebirds- I also love the birds chirping, I will have to add that to my "favorites" list.
My MIL loves red birds and sees them at important times when she needs a little pick-me-up or is having a bad day. She thinks they are my Hubby's dad who passed away. I don't usually see them, but this weekend when we were working on the backyard, a red bird squawked and squawked until I looked up at it, then it flew off. I think Mr. Jimmy was watching over our progress as well :)
I, also, look for the native pecan trees to bud out. Dad used to say that when you saw that, you could burn your long underwear cuz winter was over! I also love to hear the frogs singing at night with their mating calls. It reminds me of looking for frog eggs and tadpoles with you!! Your flowerbeds in front ROCK!! love, Pee Pee
I so enjoy reading about & see pics of what's going with ya'll. It's the next best thing to a face to face visit (which I'm hoping will be soon!).
I found a cardinal nest in my jasmine vine! Mom & dad cardinal are very protective of their nest and I can't wait for babies!!!!
