This week will be weird. I won't see my hubby for the next two days...no we aren't fighting, he's not off on some super awesome trip, or working long hours... I am the one working the odd hours this week.
We are currently in the process of our "go-live" week for our electronic medical record (EMR). I hope most of you haven't frequented a hospital lately but if you have, you may have noticed most hospitals have already gone from paper charting to EMR. By either 2014 it will be mandatory, so our hospital is busy switching over as we speak.
A couple months ago my boss asked me to be a super user with our new EMR program. What this essentially meant was that for 8 weeks I would not be working as a dietitian, but would be helping along with the rest of the team to implement the program, which is called ProTouch.
Flash forward 6 weeks and we are now into "go-live" week. We've made it to the very end (well, almost)! Our program went live today at 7:01 am and all our nurses, aides, ancilary departments and HOPEFULLY our docs are at work busy charting their little hearts out in the EMR rather than on paper.
We worked out our schedule for go-live coverage and there were some breaks where no one was scheduled to work. I don't have kids at home and as much as I would love to be here with my guys, they are self sufficient. Since I bring my baby to work with me daily (hehe), I signed up to help work a couple of nights.
Yes, you read that correctly, I will be working some night shifts. I won't be alone, there will be two other super users with me and our support crew will also be there, but I have to admit, I'm a little worried I will simply just fall asleep...
Our fearless leader, Chenita, did schedule me to work on 3rd floor, which is the floor I work on usually and also where my office is. I don't think I will have much time to sneak off to hang out in my office, but I guess it is good to have a back-up.
There are some upsides to working odd hours. Hopefully it will be less stressful with less employees at work, but I guess we just won't know until tonight. I am also thankful I am not one of the pregnant people who avoids caffeine like the plague, since there is no way I could do this without a little help. I am also very happy about the timing of this, that this opportunity came up during my 2nd trimester, as I feel completely normal, and would have never been able to do this in the 1st.
So here's to being a night owl- for real. Wish me luck, cuz I know I'll need it! :)
